According to my last 3 weeks of research, the answer to the first question is roughly 68% negative, 18% “I’m not sure” and 14% positive. Although out of that 14%, half of them didn’t have a correct answer. All the questions were raised to different areas but mostly in tech environments. All of them between different positions, from juniors to high management executives.
Wikipedia has a vast series of examples that apply to certain areas if you want to get deeper into the definition.
A new question
Even though the numbers are from a very small sample, it raises a very broad question. Why, a term with its popularity growing over the last 20 years, has several very good examples of how it works, clarifies bad decision making and helps clearing roadmaps towards planned features or scenarios within companies, is so poorly known?
Very often the definition itself can be amazing for any company, imagine solving or avoiding problems before you start creating them, sounds good doesn’t it? But, how many times a company big or small actually takes care of its processes and reliably fixes the issues for the correct…
